34th MOSCOW INTERNATIONAL OPTICAL FAIR (MIOF)

The 34th Moscow International Optical Fair (MIOF), the only communication platform in the national optical market, providing a unique chance to distributors of world famous brands of glasses, frames and lenses, ophthalmic equipment, suppliers of accessories and software products for optical salons to present the latest optical developments and current fashion spectacle collections, was held February 20 through 22, 2024 at Crocus Expo.

EXHIBITORS

More than 100 companies and 250 brands from Russia, the Republic of Belarus, Turkey and China took part in MIOF.

Large industry players and young, but ambitious brands demonstrated their novelties of the season and delighted the guests of the event with special promotions, offers, discounts and branded gifts within the exposition comprising over 7 000 square meters.

Medstar showcased updated collections of Polarstar, Sunstar, Fabiano, Superbike, Laura Biagiotti, Enrico Coveri sunglasses; and medical frames of the brands Monica, Ricardo, Fabiano, Barracuda and Jessie DESIGNER.

Alkhemer Optik displayed a design collection of titanium frames TATTVA. This year, TATTVA was awarded the Golden Lorgnette National Award in the optical industry in the nomination Private Trademark.

Opticus demonstrated within MIOF sunglasses and medical frames of the Trussardi brand, combining Italian elegance, quality and passion for fashion.

The Key Optical Russia stand, an exclusive representative of Italian and French brands of frames and sunglasses, showcased the collection of a new Italian brand Alessia Ali. Despite the fact that Alessia Ali debuted in the Italian market quite recently, it became the second best in the Graziella Pagni Eyewear Award-2023 in the Innovation category.

Seasons, the company specializing in the unique decoration of eyeglass frames and creation of handmade jewelry from natural leather and stones, amazed visitors with original patchwork decor with brooches in the form of large flowers and sets with pendants in a design in the form of a transformer tie.

Inveco presented collections of frames and sunglasses from LACOSTE, BORBONESE, LAURA BIAGIOTTI, Alessandro Bruno, Lucia VALDI, etc.

Opticservice, an exclusive ADRIA WOW contact lens supplier, presented a novelty - ADRIA WOW South Korea's colored one-day contact lens. Visitors had an opportunity to learn about technological possibilities of the lens.

OpticDesignLab, a Russian designer frame manufacturer from Vladimir, brought to MIOF the best models from its collections: bright and memorable from the Avangard line and current and laconic from the Estetica line.

Spectacle trends were traditionally demonstrated within the framework of the special MIOF section Fashion Showcase. One could see models from OpticDesignLab, Alhemer Optik, Burma, Vision Lux, Optik-Market+, Optics Euros, OpticsLine, Opticus, Paritet, Riarden, Escont-Optics.

GOLDEN LORGNETTE

Anniversary Awarding Ceremony for the winners of the Golden Lorgnette National Award in the optical industry was held on the first day of the fair. The Award is granted annually to the best projects, companies and specialists who have made a significant contribution to the development of the optical market.

The winners of the award were determined in 2024 in ten nominations:

BUSINESS PROGRAM

The MIOF Educational Forum held February 20 and 21 presented a wide range of topics - from purely professional and scientific to business issues related to sales, merchandising, development and marketing.

Representatives of the companies Hoya Lens Rus, Essilor Academy Russia, Shamir, O’key Vision, the National Myopia Institute, Opticpoint Academy, ChU DPO Institute for Advanced Studies Opti-class and others were the speakers of the business program.

33rd MOSCOW INTERNATIONAL OPTICAL FAIR (MIOF)

The 33rd Moscow International Optical Fair (MIOF), the only international event devoted to optical industry, was held September 5 through 7, 2023 at Crocus Expo. It is the place where the brands and the opticians meet tomorrow's business and their future success.

EXPOSITION

120 companies from Russia, Belarus, China and Turkey exhibited at the fair and displayed collections of the autumn-winter season 2023-2024, ophthalmic equipment, software products for optics salons, accessories and a specialized press.

More than 3,000 visitors got acquainted with new products in the categories of medical frames, sunglasses and ready-made glasses, spectacle and contact vision correction.

The largest and most reputable players of the optics market, loyal MIOF participants Medstar, Avvita, Balero, Inveco Holding, New Line, New Optica and Shamir Rus traditionally showcased for the guests of the trade fair both seasonal renewal of collections of famous world brands and their own brands. Inveco Holding presented a line of medical frames Flash of its own Alessandro Bruno trademark, and Medstar NPF showcased a collection of children's frames Jessie specially displayed by the beginning of the school year.

More than 30 optical companies from China and Turkey took part in the MIOF exhibition: they introduced collections of medical frames, sunglasses and children's glasses. Some collections of foreign participants were made specifically to be displayed at the MIOF exhibition.

Opticus Rus, representing the GO Eyewear Group collections on the Russian market, showcased models of the Trussardi design brand, which had recently replenished the group's portfolio.

Optik Market + presented a new collection of frames of the Dutch company C-Zone, frames and sunglasses from Italian brand Pier Martino.

EYENEYE, an independent brand of glasses from St. Petersburg, displayed alongside with glasses collection their own design trade equipment. Berlin brand Eigengrau offered to visitors bright state-of-the-art transparent acetate models.

SunCity has attracted the attention by frame collections of its own brands and sunglasses from Havvs, KatrinJones and ThomRichard.

The contact correction sector was represented by night lenses from SkyOptix, multifunctional solution for VISIMI soft contact lenses care from Oasis and Goodlook from Medstar NPF.

Shamir Rus showcased innovative spectacle lenses Shamir Driver Intelligence which are day and night eyeglass lenses for every driver, specially designed to help make your driving experience smoother and safer, in any light or weather conditions. Vision Trade displayed a wide range of transparent and colored Illusion lenses with different wear periods.

Ophthalmological equipment was again presented at the stands of OKO Med, the distributor of the Italian Meccanottica Mazza; Stormov Group, the Huvitz distributor, and a representative of Panfundus, a supplier of ophthalmology equipment and consumables.

More than 30 optical companies from China and Turkey took part in the MIOF exhibition: they introduced collections of medical frames, sunglasses and children's glasses. Some collections of foreign participants had been made specifically to be displayed at the MIOF exhibition.

FASHION SHOWCASE

A fusion of art and craftsmanship, the Fashion Showcase special section, celebrated know-how and exclusivity and offered a unique insight into brands whose closely aligned market identities highlight the diversity and particular characteristics of the contemporary eyewear sector. Alhemer Optik, Aelita Optics Plus, Burma, NPF Medstar, New Optica, Euro Optics, Opticdesign, Rearden, Tessa, Eigengrau and Einar presented their creative solutions of optical design.

BUSINESS PROGRAM

Kids Vision scientific conference on children's ophthalmology and optometry was held within the frames of the Business and Educational Forum. The conference incorporated the largest key players of the optical market. The largest Russian franchise chain Eyekraft and the International Optical College for the first time participated in the events of the business program. The geography of speakers featured representatives of the optical industry from Yekaterinburg, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Pyatigorsk and Cheboksary.

Also experts from the National Medical Research Center MNTK Eye Microsurgery named after Academician S. N. Fedorov, children's eye clinics chain Yasny Vzor, children’s clinics of evidence-based medicine DocDeti, Essilor Academy Russia, Opticpoint Academy, Optics Region companies, Eigengrau, Optic Dias, Rodenstock and many others spoke for the attendees.

32rd MOSCOW INTERNATIONAL OPTICAL FAIR (MIOF)

The 32rd Moscow International Optical Fair MIOF, the meeting place of the leading distributors of global brands of medical optics and ophthalmology with representatives of wholesale and retail, was held February 14 through 16, 2023 at Crocus Expo. 

EXPOSITION

More than 100 companies from Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, China, India, Turkey and Russia participated in the spring edition of the trade fair. Over 3000 specialists attended the exhibition, which once again emphasized the significance of the event in the optical segment of the market.

All segments of the industry were demonstrated within the frames of the exposition. Visitors learnt about new collections of medical frames and sunglasses for the 2023 season, new ophthalmic diagnostic equipment, software for optical salons, accessories for optics. They got acquainted with modern technologies for vision diagnostics, as well as sophisticated design solutions in the production of frames.

Belutti, Moi Ochki, Optic Market +, OptiFlex, Optichesky Mir, Escont Optics, Spunky Studio, Oliver Wood and many others presented their own products and products from well-known European brands displayed by the leaders in the production of optics from Italy, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and other countries.

Alhemer Optic presented a new brand Tattva, representing a combination of technological solutions and premium materials with handmade work and fashion outside of time.

The visitors expressed special interest for the products of the Twinz (Armenia)company - handmade designer wooden frames. Optika Euro displayed new La strada models, New Line - collections from ENNI Marco, Mario Rossi and other European brands for every style and suitable for any occasion - from classics to modern design trends. Stax unveiled stylish fur-trimmed cases and flannel-lined leather cases.

Kriptomed presented a unique development of the Istok-Audio Group of Companies – the VISION hardware and software complex intended for expert diagnostics of subjective and objective visual acuity using classical tables and infrared videonystagmography technology. Specialists who select equipment for equipping ophthalmic rooms were definitely interested in the new model of the auto-ref keratometer Single LTL, which analyzes the curvature of the cornea and calculates the eye refraction. 

FASION SHOWCASE AND PHOTO ZONE

This year's MIOF fashion showcase displayed 60s classics, oval metal frames and coloured plastic frames.

A photo zone, representing a light installation of the abbreviation of the trade fair, was also presented within the frames of the fair. The exclusive design project of the photo zone had been developed by the partner of the exhibition - the design studio of Svetlana Krutalevich Krutalevich Interiors.

GOLDEN LORGNETTE NATIONAL AWARD

The Awarding ceremony for the winners of the Golden Lorgnette Award was traditionally held on the first day of the fair. The organizers of the contest were MIOF Management Office and Market Assistant Group. Russian companies, joint ventures and representative offices of companies from abroad, registered and conducting main activities in Russia and operating in the market of optical goods and services, as well as participating in the MIOF trade fair, were nominated for the Award.

Organizations and companies from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Perm, Makhachkala, Cheboksary and Chita became the winners of the Award. A competition for young designers Prodesign Frames, organized in partnership with the International promotion and advertising technologies festival ProMediaTech was for the first time held as part of the main program. The contestants presented their own design interpretation of glasses and frames. The winners were Maya Burnasheva (St. Petersburg) and Sergey Tanas (Moldova).

BUSINESS PROGRAM

The exposition was accompanied by a rich business program organized by the MIOF Exhibition Management office and the Market Assistant Group. The Educational and Business Forum featured events of various formats: seminars, training courses, presentations and etc. Effective practices of increase in sales, the latest innovations in lenses manufacture, methods of identification of customer needs in new eyewear products and the latest methods of patient’s examination were presented to the audience.

Over the years of its operation the Moscow International Optical Fair had rightfully earned high reputation at the professional community.

The 31rd Moscow International Optical Fair (MIOF), a significant business event for the optical industry of Russia, was held September 13 through 15 at Crocus Expo.

To date MIOF is considered to be the largest national platform and meeting place for the leading distributors of global brands of medical optics and ophthalmology with representatives of wholesale and retail trade. Exhibitors presented to visitors a wide range of perspective developments in all areas of the industry including fresh design solutions: eyeglasses fashion (frames and sun glasses), eyeglass and contact lenses, care means for medical optics, diagnostic equipment, software for salons of optics, various accessories, trade equipment for opticians, specialized optical editions and many other things.

Participants of the MIOF autumn edition were more than 70 companies from abroad (the Republic of Belarus, Russian distributors of products from Great Britain, Israel, Italy, China, France, Austria and South Korea) and from 10 Russian regions (Moscow, Krasnodar, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Crimea, Voronezh, Ryazan, Rostov-on-Don, Vladimir, Volgograd). Well known at the Russian market brands were among the exhibitors: Optic Dias, Megapolis, Inveco, Rodenstock RUS, Balero-MC and others. Kriptomed successfully exhibited products for the first time at the trade fair.

BUSINESS PROGRAM

Dedicated and dense business program was traditionally held alongside with the exposition. The specialists obtained new knowledge on a wide range of thematic sections when attending the calendar of events. The sciences of vision have progressed a lot in recent years thanks to the numerous research works and innovations made in the materials. This new knowledge has led to significant changes in the methods of correcting vision defects, prescriptions and the development of equipment.

VI scientific and practical conference on children's ophthalmology and optometry Kids Vision was held on the first day of the trade fair September 13.

Representatives of ArtOptics held a seminar within the frames of the Business forum where they talked about the use of Perifocal lenses in optometric practice, including their optical and functional advantages in comparison with multisegment lenses.

Another seminar was organized by the manufacturer of contact lenses SkyOptix laboratory. Issues related to the diversity of orthokeratology types; integration of orthokeratology into existing business; commercialization of the orthokeratology business using digital tools were considered within the frames of the seminar.

The seminar held by Yakutina E. N., trainer of the International Business School Strategist, General Director Market Assistance Group, became of special interest for the attendees. The speaker told about an optical enterprise growth strategy and what first steps should be undertaken by an optician to start business. V SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE ON CHILDREN'S OPHTHALMOLOGY AND OPTOMETRY KIDS VISION

The anniversary V scientific conference on children's ophthalmology and optometry KIDS VISION was held within the frames of the fair. The interim results of the summer charity action Glasses for Children with Rare Genetic Diseases which formed the integral part of the Kids Vision project were announced at the conference.

The action took place June 1 to August 15, 2021. During the three summer months, children with genetic diseases aniridia, albinism and achromatopsia received new corrective and sunglasses as a gift. In total, over the summer, the philanthropists managed to help 177 children, and another 27 will receive help in October.

Optics Gallery, Optics City, Akademoptika, -the exclusive distributor of spectacle lenses of the French manufacturer BBGR, Russian division of the international optical company Opticus, Key Optical Russia, Leglama, Medstar NPF; and new partners - Mondottica, Eyelevel, New Line and Rodenstock Rus rendered support to the project.

The co-organizer of the action was MOO MCP Raduzhka with the participation of the Aniridia Center of the Pediatric Department of the Central Research Bureau of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The partners of the charitable foundation Kids Vision are Crocus Expo and Market Assistant Group.

The program of the V scientific conference Kids Vision featured a number of various educational and scientific events for the professionals of the optical industry.

Among the topics that were considered at the conference, the problem of myopia occupied a predominant place. U.V. Diadina, ophthalmologist, PhD in medicine, director of educational programs Hoya Lens Rus, introduced an innovative myopia controlling method with Hoya MiYOSMART spectacle lenses. M. A. Trubilina, PhD in medicine, Director General of the Professor Trubilins Family Ophthalmology Clinic, highlighted in her lecture the practical experience of using the innovative myopia controlling method - MiYOSMART spectacle lenses.

Besides the section Rare Eye Diseases and Poor Vision with participation of outstanding scientists and practitioners was organized within the frames of the project. Poor vision area offers opticians and other professionals the opportunity to improve their knowledge of this topic, along with practical and useful information to help tackle one of todays major health problems. In particular, S. E. Kondratova, ophthalmologist, researcher at the Research Institute of Pediatrics and Child Health of the Central Clinical Hospital of the Russian Academy of Sciences, chief physician of the Center for Optical Correction of Vision Academoptics, spoke at the conference.

Issues of screening binocular disorders, the use of scleral lenses and accreditation of optometrists were discussed at the Kids Vision conference. N.V. Rinskaya, master of optometry, specialist in binocular disorders, author of the Optometrists Handbook, spoke about screening binocular disorders.

SPECIAL PROJECTS

A new project Kindness Glasses, organized in joint efforts with the Kids Vision charitable foundation, was for the first time held within MIOF frames. The organizers arranged the collection of glasses to be handed over to poor people or those who were in a difficult life situation. Any visitor could bring second hand no longer used glasses to the exhibition and donate them and representatives of optical salons could take illiquid goods from their stocks, bring them to the exhibition and put in a special container. The charitable foundation Kids Vision NPO handed over the collected during the action glasses directly to official associations of patients with vision diseases, optics stores and medical clinics through which glasses would be distributed among patients.

It was also announced about the commence of applications acceptance for the national tender on participation in the contest for the Russian National Award Golden Lorgnette 2021 in the optical industry for achievements in the field of new technologies promotion, sight protection and professional service of the population, which would be culminated by the Awarding Ceremony within the spring edition of the trade fair. Deadline for applications is November 01, 2020. The application can be submitted in the personal account at the award website.

VISITORS

A wide professional audience attended MIOF trade fair: owners and managers of optical chains and salons; marketers, heads of sales and promotion departments of optical salons; buyers and specialists responsible for the formation of the assortment; ophthalmologists and optometrists.

The number of specialists - representatives of wholesale and retail companies, owners of optical products trading platforms, ophthalmologists who visited the 29th Moscow International Optical Fair- amounted to more than 3,000 people.

The total number of attendees at the Kids Vision conference and Business forum exceeded 500 people. Among them, about 10% of newcomers, are those who decided to start up a new business by opening their own optics stores. Thus, MIOF has become for them a guide to the world of the optical industry.

New collections of frames, sunglasses and lenses for various age categories and style directions will be presented at Balero-MS and Kalita stands. Opticdesign will display their own collections of frames and capabilities for the production of frames in Russia under a customer's brand.

New diagnostic and technological equipment for optician’s and workshops can be seen and tested at Stormoff, Panfundus, Maksema-Optics, Krym Optical Group stands. Barbus KB, a loyal participant of the trade fair, will present to visitors trading equipment for optical salons. The main direction of the company are design projects of turnkey trade interior solutions.

This year's debutants will be SBM, the exclusive representative in Russia of American children's sunglasses-masks; Anabelle Fashion Hub, a supplier of Italian glasses brands, including sunglasses and accessories; Key Optical Russia, which for the first time will present the collection of the licensed Cosmopolitan brand.

Another interesting event of the first day will be the seminar of the ITigris product manager Nikolai Nikolaev on the topic: Prospects: how automation helps to survive the market crisis.

September 9 - specialists will have an opportunity to come to know about the results of clinical studies on the influence of Myopilux lenses on the control of progressive myopia (speakers: Rano Ibragimova, MD, ophthalmologist, medical consultant of Essilor Academy, Alexander Koltsov, ophthalmologist, director of Nikon Academy educational programs).

The interim results of the Kids Vision charity action Glasses for Children with Genetic Diseases will be announced during the 27th Moscow International Optical Fair (MIOF). The action will be held till November 30, 2020 inclusive.

The action has been initiated and organized by Crocus Expo, Management Office of the trade fair and Market Assistant Group, Director General E.N. Yakutina. The program of the conference offers a number of various events including seminars, training courses, presentations and lectures.

The 26th Moscow International Optical Fair (MIOF), the leading branch event which twice a year incorporates on the same platform professionals from the sphere of medical optics and ophthalmology, was held in Crocus Expo February 11 through 13, 2020. The organizer of the project is Crocus Expo, the expo venue which ranks at the top among exhibition centers of Russia and Eastern Europe.

EXPOSITION

136 companies from Australia, Armenia, Belarus, Great Britain, Israel, Canada, Kyrgyzstan, China, France and 18 regions of the Russian Federation exhibited their products and services within the frames of MIOF 2020. Spring. The exposition covered all directions of the industry: fashion (frames and sunglasses), eyeglass and contact lenses, optics care facilities, all kinds of accessories, diagnostic equipment, software and trading equipment for optical salons, specialized publications and much more.

The largest companies of the Russian optical industry : including Avvita, Inveco Holding, Marcisa project (Kering Group), Marcolin Rus, Megalopolis, New Optics, Optic Dias and others displayed their products and services at the trade fair. DANZ, Stax, Bitwin, Bryanskfarmatsiya, BioEcoTime, Burma, Ezayssa Optics, Yugoptika were among debutants of the 2020 edition.

For the first in the MIOF history, the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association (HKOMA) in cooperation with the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) organized the pavilion of the Hong Kong Eyewear Good Design project, which united more than 30 exhibitors from China. Only those exhibitors, who meet strict international criteria, have been selected to participate in the project aimed to promote Hong Kong's best optical designers and companies. There were brands already known in Russia, such as Laura Ashley or Big Horn by Kevin Ching designer, and new, equally interesting collections, such as GQ (Good Quality Optical Factory Ltd) or models of Cheung Sau Ki and Ho Mei To designers.

And even more SILMO Paris, one of the largest exhibitions of medical optics in the world, for the first time joined partners and participants of the Moscow fair as well. Annually SILMO Paris brings together more than 1 000 participating companies from different countries. The representatives of the project told about SILMO Paris which will be held in Paris Nord Villepinte expo venue October 2 through 5, 2020.

CALENDAR OF EVENTS

The 26th Moscow International Optical Fair business program, featuring events of various formats: seminars, training courses, presentations and etc., formed once again an integral part of the exposition. Effective practices of increase in sales, optimization of work and increase in profitability of optician salons, methods of identification of customer needs in new eyewear products and the latest methods of patient examination were presented to the audience.

The VI Awarding Ceremony for the winners of the Golden Lorgnette, Russian National Award in the optical industry for achievements in the field of new technologies promotion, sight protection and professional service of the population, traditionally took place within the frames of the spring MIOF edition. The organizers of the contest and awarding ceremony were Crocus Expo, MIOF management office and Market Assistant Group with the support of the Ministry for Healthcare of the Russian Federation.

110 applications from 45 companies were accepted to the contest. The expert panel of judges defined winners in ten nominations including a new nomination The Optometrist of the Year.

The results of the contest were as follows: Debut of the Year frames from the buffalo horn Abaluevs. (S. Abaluyev, St. Petersburg); Marketing Project of the Year promotion of Tony Morgan brand (Aelita, Moscow), in local nomination Optics of the New Format (Optics Center, Chelyabinsk); Innovation of the Year eyeglasses for active recreation and shooters (InterOptic, Moscow); Educational Project of the Year Vision-Knowledge (network of optical salons Tochka Zreniya, Voronezh); Optometrist of the Year Tamara Abugova, ophthalmologist, medical sciences candidate, deputy general director, head of scientific and therapeutic work in the Network of Optical Salons Optsic City (Moscow); Private Trademark Ventoe (Opticus, Moscow); Network of the Year, federal Optik Kronos (Nizhny Novgorod) and local Zdorovie I Miliserdiye (Archangelsk); Salon of the Year Lumen Optika (Rostov-on-Don).

Being an international communication platform, the MIOF makes an important contribution to the professional development and professional level of the Russian ophthalmologists and optometrist. Master class from Natalia Rinskaya on prism correction will be held February 12, 2020. Eye care professionals use prism correction as a component of some eyeglass prescriptions. A lens which includes some amount of prism correction will displace the viewed image horizontally, vertically, or a combination of both directions.
